The Village of Huntley is located along the "golden" I-90 Corridor approximately 45 minutes west of the Chicago Business Loop and 30 minutes west of O’Hare International Airport. Neighboring communities include Crystal Lake and Lakewood to the Northeast, Lake-in-the-Hills and Algonquin to the East, Gilberts to the Southeast, Hampshire to the Southwest, Marengo and Union to the West and Woodstock to the North.
Huntley covers 13.4 square miles and currently has a population of 16,719. The Village's 1990 Census population was 2,453 and the 2000 Census number was 5,730, an increase of approximately 134%. A Special Census in 2003 revealed the population to be 12,203, more than twice the Census figures of 2000. The Village's 2005 Special Census estimates the Village's population is currently 16,719.The Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission estimates the population will rise to 44,435 by year 2030.
Business registration
All businesses in the Village of Huntley are required to be registered. Vending machines must also be registered with the Village.
Contractor registration
All contractors doing work or rendering service in Huntley are required to be registered with the Village. Registration forms can be obtained by contacting the Development Services Department. A $25.00 fee is assessed.
Leaf burning
Leaf burning is allowed within the Village of Huntley between the hours of 9am and 9pm. Leaves are not allowed to be burned in any street (right of way) or within 20ft of any building and must be monitored at all times. Burning of other materials is prohibited at all times.
Parking regulations
No parking is allowed on any Village street between the hours of 2am and 6am. Permission can be obtained for special circumstance by contacting the Police Department non-emergency number. Parking across public sidewalks is prohibited at all times.
Pet registration
The Village of Huntley does not require pet licensing. However, both Kane & McHenry Counties do require valid rabies tags for all dogs.
Signs
Ordinance governs the display of temporary and permanent signs. No signs are allowed in the right of way. Garage sale signs are permitted on private property only.
Snow removal
Parking of any vehicles on Village streets within 8 Hours of a snowfall of 2 inches or more is prohibited.
Vehicle stickers
Vehicle Stickers are not required in the Village of Huntley.
Water bills
Water bills can be paid by mail or in person at Village Hall. You can also sign up for the direct utility billing plan Bills are sent bi-monthly.
Watering restrictions
A color-coded, three-tiered water conservation program was adopted to help residents quickly identify the status of our community water system. Signs will be posted throughout the Village displaying the color and water restriction conditions. Hand watering is permitted for watering of flowers, plants, car washing, etc.
Curfew
For residents 17 and under: Weekdays at 11:00pm. Midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
Home improvement
Permits are required for many home improvement projects. Please check with the Village's Development Services Department before commencing work.
Hydrant flushing
Hydrants are flushed periodically to ensure good water quality and pressure. Residents will be provided with notice of flushing schedules which may affect water service in the area.
Garage sales
The Village does not require a permit to have a garage sale. However, garage sale signs are only allowed to be posted on private property.
Garbage pick up
A list of the licensed waste haulers can also be obtained from Village Hall.
Junk car ordinance
Vehicles must be operable. There is a time limit for removal. Please contact the Police Department for additional information.
